Ah, that would be an Australianism, I guess...

To spruik (pronounced: sprook) is to stand in a public place (usually
in front of the shop you're spruiking) with a megaphone or PA system,
and try and sell stuff to passers-by. It's the spam of the Australian
high street. :-)
