You use Demon. One of the advertised unique services offered by Demon is
that they will 'push' your e-mail to you by SMTP (not tpms) when you
connect to theym. If you're running Turnpike (I assume) or you've set
things up on your Linux/Unix box, this is a really nice service. If you
haven't set things up, this can be a nuisance. I do use Demon (only for
dial-up and news, not e-mail), but ISTR there was a setting somewhere for
turning it off.
I've just had a look, and it seems you can do it from the Demon
WebPassword service. So, you can turn it off and just use POP3 (which I
assume you're using now) or leave it on and set up your system to handle
it. In general, this is one of those things where "if you don't know that
you need it, you probably don't".
